Julien Duval: “Defend the jersey through Sunday”
“The goal at the start was to defend the jersey of Dorian Godon. It was necessary to force the sprinters who were well placed in the GC to work for it. It was a hard race with wind and rain. We ended up at the front with seven and we drove the pace very well together. I wanted to play for the sprint. Stijn (Vandenbergh) did a huge job in the finale. But Moreira was just too strong, and I could not do anything more. I am a little disappointed because I am working for another teammate most of the time, and I do not often have the opportunity to win races. Of course, the yellow jersey is a nice compensation. Now we will try to keep it until Sunday. We will have to be really solid as a team because there will be wind, rain, bonus seconds available, and the sprinters are still well placed in general classification. I’m happy with my form because I started the race a little in the dark. I took three weeks off after Tro Bro Leon, and then I crashed at the Four Days of Dunkirk. So that meant I had to rest for another two and a half weeks. This is the first time that I have gone so many days with only six days of racing, so I wondered where my form really was. The goal for June will be the National Championship for France and to win the tricolor jersey in the team.”JULIEN DUVAL
