Clément Venturini « An exhausting stage »
« The stage was grueling with the wind and the climbs. Stan Dewulf was in the lead until the last few kilometers, so our hopes were with him. At the speed it was going and with the headwind it was really tough for him to hold off the whole peloton. The final was very technical. We tried to position ourselves as well as possible with the team and that made it possible to take a top-10 at the finish.»Clément
Geoffrey Bouchard is 18th in the general classification of La Vuelta a Espana. He gained two places during this 16th stage.
Stan Dewulf in today’s breakaway
Stan Dewulf was in the breakaway throughout this 16th stage of the Vuelta a Espana. He was finally reeled in just 4.5 kilometers from the finish. “It was one of the last opportunities for me, so I wanted to give it a try. We knew it was going to be difficult with just five, but we tried to play with the peloton. It didn’t work out, but we couldn’t have done more. That’s just racing,” Stan Dewulf said. He has been selected for the Belgian team for the road race at the European Championships (September 12).
