Tour de Suisse (6th stage) : François Bidard 3rd

FRANCOIS BIDARD : “You had to play it smart”

“Today you had to be smart and not be fooled. During the last climb, I thought back to the 19th stage of the Giro when
I was in the breakaway (6th at the finish). I knew how to manage my climb without cooking myself.
I knew that Rui Costa liked this kind of climb and we got back together. Then when Bernal passed us, I gave everything to try to follow. Today, I do not win, but I’m happy with my day. I have recovered from the Giro, I’m stringing together big efforts, and I see that I still have beautiful things to do.”FRANCOIS BIDARD

After taking ninth on Monday at the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge in his first race back after abandoning the Giro, Tony Gallopin took 5th place today in the first stage of the Route d’Occitanie:
“I felt that I could not stand the changes in pace. I preferred to climb at my own rhythm. Since my return to racing after the Giro, I feel that I have strength but I still lack that explosiveness. I’m pretty happy with my day, though.”
