Marc Sarreau: "Very happy to confirm
"The day was pretty quiet. We controlled the whole stage with the Trek-Segafredo team. On the last climb, a group of strong riders came out and then the guys did a great job to come back and place me until the last kilometer. I just had to finish.
I am very happy to confirm and to win again on this Tour Poitou-Charentes. It feels good for everyone. We have a very good group here and that changes a lot. The work of my teammates all day gives me confidence and I can express my potential in the final pack. It's great when everything goes well like this.
The general classification will be too difficult for me, even with the bonuses. In a 20-kilometer time trial, I can't compete with the specialists. Nevertheless, there are still two stages left to try to get another win."[/su_quote]
Marc Sarreau is raising his arms for the third time this season.
He won Cholet Pays de la Loire and the first two stages of the Tour Poitou-Charentes.
This is the 15th victory of his professional career and the 9th victory for the AG2R CITROËN team in 2022.
La Vuelta a Espana (5th stage): Jaakko Hänninen in today's breakaway
Jaakko Hänninen was in the breakaway of the day before he crashed. He finished in the pack of favorites in the fifth stage of the Vuelta a Espana.
"I was in the good breakaway that fought for the final victory. I don't know exactly what happened in my crash, a rider hit my rear wheel and I fell in a traffic circle. I finish with the peloton, we will see in the next days how I recover from this crash", says Jaakko Hänninen.
"There is a sense of frustration today. We had identified this stage as important, with a high probability that the breakaway would fight for the victory. Jaakko Hänninen, one of our best riders, was there. Unfortunately, a race hazard with Jaakko's crash upset the scenario of the day for the AG2R CITROËN team. It is a disappointment for rider who is in an interesting phase with very good legs", says Julien Jurdie, sport director.
